I got this quote of the Robert Englund official forum.
All I can say is that remaking ANOES is one mistake Hollywood will regret. I can't believe even Freddy Krueger's creator Wes Craven would sink this low as to recreate the film. I'm really pissed. And "bring Freddy back from the dead"?! He never died! In the last film, it was obvious he was alive. Freddy is not dead, but if they remake it, he's better off dead and gone.
Oh yes, and they're also thinking of replacing Robert Englund.
Screw Hollywood.

I think that it really sucks! Why do they have to remake movies at all. Ok, I have to admitt that I liked the remake of the Texas Chainsaw Massacer a lot more than I thought I would, but that was because it wasn't a total copy of the original.
I think that it's good that Robert probably won't be in the remake. He knows that he's the only one that can play Freddy. I would've actually been more pissed if he actually agreed to play Freddy in it.

If they actually go ahead and remake Nightmare, I'm going to kill them all. Even though I can't really, because it's like against my morals and the law and such.

I hope they don't remake Nightmare either. But if they do they HAVE to use Robert or Freddy just won't be Freddy.....
If they use Robert, I'll go see it and probably buy the DVD when it drops, if they don't, I won't spend a frickin' penny on it!!!

I'm against the remake, even if they do use Robert because they're just screwing up the whole series by remaking the original film.

Exactly, Amber. And I don't want Robert to be a part of that.

I'm just as skeptical as anyone here, but I still say give it a chance. To be honest, I'd like Robert Englund to play Freddy ONE MORE time and I'll explain why right now. It's been a lot of years since he's played Freddy as a truly terrifying entity. That was the first 2 and quarter movies (Jennifer's death scene in P. 3 is where Freddy starts to get corny) so I wanna see what (or, IF) Englund still has within him what it takes to play Fred Krueger...not Freddy the jester. Part 1 style. That doesn't mean take away his sense of humor, cuz as England has said, Freddy in the original was humorous and sadistic...but he was also terrifying and NEVER over the top. Starting with part 3, he wasn't scary anymore. The character just was no longer written that way. I want Freddy to come back one more time as the orignal ghastly killer. Then END THE SERIES FOREVER!! (or at least replace England so I won't be as tempted to watch them "for the hell of it" lol). AND AND AND AND...Englund's the right age now to play a more stereotypical child murderer (face it, they do tend to be middle aged white men). To be honest, now that I think of it, he was probably a little too young to play him back when he did in the original. Now the time is ripe for Rob to truly recapture...for the last time, the essense of who and what Fred is. If he were to do this...I'd kindly ask him to retire and not do anymore sequels for all our sakes...including his own LOL. Let's let it rest. Now that they're talkin about a remake it's like it's come full circle. Man, I feel like Rob Shaye giving Nancy a nightmarishly long pitch for a movie! Anyway, point is, if they DO do this, I'd be really excited to see Rob Englund reprise his original Freddy persona one last time. Please someone make sure this request gets to someone 's ears who can forward this to those with the power to make it happn. By the way, won't everybody be depressed that Heather Lankenkamp most likely would have no role to play in this film due to her age? (really sad to say that by the way...it's depressing to think about cuz she'll always be a young spirit to me) Great first post, eh? Oh and what's up everybody! Huge Nightmare phreak since I was around 10 (much older now lol)

Welcome piggie, I'm an extreme Nightmare fan as well. SINCE I WAS BORN! LOL! And you've come to the right place. If you'd like, I could pass that message onto Robert Englund and New Line Cinema for you.

It wouldn't renew the franchise, it's screw it up! Nothing good or evil comes from a remake.
