As of last night, I've been infected.
Like I announced to everyone on the Cbox, I've downloaded LimeWire and it had an adware file attached to it. I thought nothing of it, and supposedly deleted the infected file.
Evidently I downloaded LimeWire from a phished website that was not the accurate source to download it from. I remembered the URL, and when I looked it up, to my surprise it's no longer there.
Someone must've went to www.limewire.com and right clicked the page and view soarce, copy/pasting the website's code and making a psuedo copy of the site with an infected file download.
I thought I deleted the file, but it weaved deeper into my computer and really screwed it up. Now every time I boot up and go onto my desktop, a small installation pop up appears on screen saying that "Windows is prepairing to install" install a program that I already have.
Even if I let it finish, it tells me to insert the disc that I downloaded the program with, and I don't have any such disc because my computer came with these programs.
I tried uninstalling the program it was trying to install, and then I restarted my computer. After I rebooted up, the pop up showed back up but for another program.
It's obviously going to do this no matter what I do. And when I select "Cancel" it loops itself over and over again. Although it eventually quits until the next time I boot up. I've scanned my computer for viruses/adware/spyware and such, yet nothing comes up as a threat. I'm afraid I don't know what to do, and I'm going to have to deal with this problem until I can call Dell and see if they can solve it.
If not, I have to do a "System Restore" and back up all my important files onto disc.
I will not be sending any files of any sort to anyone in case they are infected. This will prevent me from sending out a file that will infect the reciever's computer.
If I'm not active on here, I give my sincerest apologees to all of Nightmare Nation.
Spawn and Lord gurOtaku will take charge until I figure out what's going on. I will do my best to be on here as much as possible.
Thank you all for your support, I'll be needing it.
Merry Christmas,
Nightmare Master
